PC Sally Baines asked for help for two foster boys under the age of 6 on Friday – then the internet responded
Among the many gifts given are teddy bears, books, Star Wars toys, footballs, clothes and Christmas stickers.
Two toy cars also were donated by another little boy.
“He brought them in from his toy box at home,” PC Sally Baines said on Twitter.
PC Baines, of West Yorkshire Police, had asked for help on social media on Friday, saying the two boys had never had basic belongings.
“Just been told about 2 kids under 6 who have been taken into Foster Care. Never had pillows, toothbrushes, toys. I am heartbroken,” she tweeted.
“Been asked if I can donate any toys or books for them…..I think I will be going shopping this weekend to get them some stuff.”
The Huddersfield Examiner also joined the appeal at the weekend.
“Thousands” of gifts have since been given, the BBC reports.
Some will be selected for the boys while the rest will go to other need kids in the area.
Today PC Baines posted: “THANK YOU to everyone who’s brought us gifts for the 2 boys in care. We have literally been overwhelmed with generous donations!
“We have more than enough lovely things for the boys. If you still want to donate, please consider one of these fabulous charities….”
