Doesn’t the law forbid cruel and unusual punishment?
Residents of Wyoming, Minnesota, were extra motivated to not drive drunk on Super Bowl Sunday. Otherwise, they’d be forced to watch Justin Bieber’s T-Mobile ad.
At 4:15 p.m. local time, the Wyoming Police Department sent out this social media message telling warning people that if they drove while intoxicated, the punishment would be stiffer than their drinks.
The ad in question shows a tuxedo-clad Bieber recounting the history of the touchdown dance with help from injured New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.
The tweet was just meant for the 8,000 or so residents of Wyoming, but its message of “if you drink and drive, you will be subjected to Bieber” struck a chord far beyond the town.
“I don’t think we envisioned this much success with it,” Wyoming Police Officer Tony Zerwas told Minneapolis station KMSP TV. “Just that one single tweet had 1.1 million views.”
Wyoming Police Chief Paul Hoppe added: “We’ve seen responses from Europe, Australia, all across the US. and Canada.”
Cheeky tweets are nothing new for the WPD, which crushed Tostitos for its “breathalyzer bag” a few days before the game.
