Sunday Times’ Best Places to Live in Britain includes three Cornish towns

Three places in Cornwall are among the Best Places to Live in Britain.

Bodmin Moor, Falmouth and Wadebridge are among eleven areas named by The Sunday Times.

All three are new additions to the list.

The guide has named Frome, Somerset, as the Best Place to Live in the Southwest.

Six of last year’s entries, Frome , Bristol , Marlborough , Tavistock , Tisbury and Totnes have returned for another year.

A spokesman for the guide said: “Not everyone was thrilled that Bristol was named as the Best Place to Live in Britain last year, with some fearing that an influx of Londoners would damage its distinct creativity and sense of community. Yet it remains one of the most exciting and energetic places in the country.”

The supplement assesses a wide range of factors, from jobs, schools and broadband speed to culture, community spirit and local shops, in order to compile the definitive top locations to live.

The methodology uses robust statistics, but also the knowledge of The Sunday Times’s expert panel. The judges combine the hard data with their own on-the-ground experience and insight to ensure the chosen locations truly are places where everyone can thrive.

“You know a place has a healthy quota of hipsters when there’s an artisan quarter,” said the spokesman.

“When not buying knitting wool and battered old suitcases in the cobbled St Catherine’s neighbourhood, the new residents are tucking in at new restaurants such as Sam’s Kitchen, Bistro Lotto and the Fat Radish.

“For feeding the soul, there’s an arts festival in July, the Black Swan arts centre and Cheese & Grain, a music venue where Foo Fighters rocked up for a gig last year. The Compassionate Frome plan, set up five years ago by a local GP to help people cope with ill health, has resulted in 17% fewer hospital admissions in the area.”

The full reveal of The Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide will be published on Sunday, March 18.

The Sunday Times Best Places to Live in Britain covers the following regions: North and Northeast, Midlands, Northern Ireland, Southeast, Wales, Southwest, East, London, Scotland and the Northwest. It also reveals the overall best place to live in the UK.

“Choosing the right location to put down roots is one of the most important decisions you’ll make,” said Helen Davies, The Sunday Times Home editor.

“Which is why we’re here to help – and what Best Places to Live in Britain is all about. We’re very excited that it is a standalone magazine this year. There is much to celebrate, and Britain is scattered with thriving towns and villages, cool cities and suburbs, though people may be surprised how many traditional favourites haven’t made the cut in 2018.”

Founder and CEO at Habito, Daniel Hegarty, said: “In the Southwest house prices have risen 4.1% over the past year, and with such great places to live, it is easy to see why it is so popular. But the process of getting a mortgage has historically meant that finding your dream home can often be a nightmare. Whether you are considering using Government schemes to buy for the first time, or are looking to remortgage ahead of the Bank of England’s next interest rate rise, using a broker can help your chances and make the process as smooth as possible. With an estimated 1 in 4 people overpaying on their mortgage by £4,100 every year, even those homeowners lucky enough to be living in Frome or Falmouth could potentially benefit from checking how much they could save.”
